Scent is the most fleeting thing: smells don’t linger, and we can’t store them in our memories either. They can only be experienced in the moment – and until that moment, they can be stored, in glass bottles, like perfume. In Chanel Drips, the iconic Chanel 5 perfume bottle is given a ‘liquid’ jacket to wear, made of liquid foam that hardened as it was poured down. Placed on a wooden pedestal, they become like artworks, put on display and saved for eternity: the liquid shape of their jackets is a visual manifestation of the cursory and transient scent they carry inside.
